The Laughing Toadstool

Who: Iren Suto and anyone who happens by
What: Iren summons a cafe
When: A few days after returning from Montica
Where: The Stacks

Iren had felt lost and adrift ever since waking up in the library. Like a swimmer lost at sea, clinging to a life ring but with no land in sight. Eventually, her arms were going to get tired and she was going to drown.

But despite being a self described coward, she was not the type of person to give up and let things be. She had spent the last few days conferring with the dead god that haunted her, who knew much more about multi dimensional physics than she did, and together they had studied the Unfinished Library and its mysteries. And then they had come up with a plan.

She found a likely looking corner of the stacks, not too far from the living quarters everyone else was using, and focused. There was a…a gap, of sorts. An impassable space between the Library and the worlds she knew. She couldn’t normally pull things across the gap. That would require a far deeper understanding of space and far more power than she had access to. Normally, this would be impossible. The Laughing Toadstool was different, however. It was part of her, as much as any physical object could be. Every cup and plate and light, every board and nail and wire were infused with little bits of her soul. She could do this.

At first there was a breeze, twirling around the stacks. It spun faster and faster and harder and harder. Flashes of lightning flickered up from the floor (without setting anything on fire, fortunately), growing in frequency and intensity until it reached a climax and an entire building erupted from the ground, shoving shelves aside.

There was a sudden silence, punctured by a faint creaking as the outer facade of the building, a small cafe/bar with a wrought iron sign hanging over the front door that declared it the Laughing Toadstool, twisted and shifted until it looked like it had been here for years. Questing wires gently hooked themselves into the Library’s electrical system and lights within flickered on. The displaced shelves somehow looked as if they’d always been in their new positions.

If you didn’t see the summoning take place, it would be easy to believe the Laughing Toadstool had always been here.

Iren looked tired, but pleased with herself as she dusted her hands off and walked through the front door, which opened up without her touching it and closed behind her. She still felt lost at sea, but now at least she had herself a boat.

Mei is wary as she steps into the Laughing Toadstool, looking at the various signs.

She can read English, though she's never had the conversational partners for long enough to get it really down. As such, she's been making do with Kansai-ben and hope.

But, despite the different decor, she thought of something entirely different as she stepped in.

"... Reminds me of Auntie Kei's," she mutters.
